Privacy policy

Last updated 3 November 2026 (online voices added)

RetroAudio is a RetroChat product that reads websites, documents and text aloud for businesses and organizations ("customers"). This policy explains what we handle for customers using the dashboard and API, and for visitors who use the Listen button on a customer's website.

Visitors on a customer's website

Customers

We store your name, email address, a salted hash of your password, your workspaces' settings, sites, pronunciation dictionary, documents, Studio projects and exported audio, API key hashes, usage counts, and a session cookie that keeps you signed in. We use this to provide the service, to send emails you need (confirmations, invitations, password resets) and to keep RetroAudio secure. We don't sell data or use it for advertising.

AI processing

Speech, translations, definitions, summaries and document conversion run on AI models hosted on Cloudflare Workers AI (including models from OpenAI, Meta, MyShell and Deepgram). Text is processed only to produce the result you asked for and is not used to train models by us.

For languages read with an online voice (for example Arabic, German, Hindi or Urdu), the text being read is sent to Google's text-to-speech service to make the audio. Only the text is sent, from our servers, never your IP address or any identifier.

Service providers

Data may be processed outside your country; we rely on these providers' safeguards for international transfers.

Retention and deletion

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed, API keys are stored only as hashes, and site keys only work on the domains a customer lists.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data by emailing hello@theretrochat.com. If you used the Listen button on someone else's website, contact that website too.
